The Best of My World

Or What Takes Your Life Time? Me working for fun at StartupWeekend in Ogden, Utah. Yup, that's a paper towel in my hair. I work a lot. Those very closest to me say I'm a bit obsessed and they're somewhat right. I have the opportunity to take something I got into and was good at to the things I love and care about in the world. This gets me goin' -motivates me through creative blocks, emotional downtimes and helps me to strive to do better work, smarter work, more work. You get the picture. There's been trip ups and errors, but it all started when I was a kid. We all had our own world when we were little (as far as I can tell) and when I was little, my world was super serious, creative, social, motivating and a lot of fun... Little Jenni Mason I can remember wanting a briefcase. I saw one recently on a Netflix series and had that childlike urge - for a briefcase? I smiled thinking of what I was like. I made up my own homework and did it over and...

I Don't Know What That Means or There's Nothing I Can Do

I would have swapped the titles' order, but it seemed to make the concept too obvious. Distort your own time! In the movies, there's sometimes a person who works a lot. Their family tries to involve them more with activities, get them off the phone or to avoid meetings. Sometimes if it's a dramatic plot, you'll hear "Your just working all the time to avoid your family and the people who care about you." Sometimes I feel like that, not like the person (because a. they aren't real and, b. no one tells me that) but I feel like I'm avoiding people. Here's the thing (and it sounds weird) It's not on purpose, but it is a choice.  I don't mean to avoid anyone or make them feel I don't care about what they are doing. I could pay attention to everyone, remember birthdays, second and third tier holidays, but I don't choose to take that time. I'm using my time for other things, and I think that's okay. We Are What We Do N...

Headed to 2015 or Let's Get this Party Started!

I'm so excited for 2015! Though I've loved what I do since I started marketing, I've literally never been so excited about the road ahead. I've spent the past year learning about green technology, further defining my career goals and getting to know a wide range of individuals and organizations around the globe. I've mentored, joined collaborative events and expanded my view of what's possible and now it's time to truly put the lessons to work. The sun is setting on 2014 If you know me, you know that almost every conversation I have includes my marketing company, my clients or the implications of what is possible for the globe if we keep moving forward and continue to develop as individuals. With the incredible amount of information available and the now trendy focus on community, collaboration and sustainability, I feel there has never been a better time for me. This week, I've put out a calendar of events, promotions and opportunities that ex...

Creative Content Creation or Ideal Marketing

We've all done it. We're watching a movie on tv, fully engrossed on the visual reality being performed for us. Lost in the fictional world, our environment drops from consciousness, pulling us into the scene and into the lives of the characters. We sit - motionless - waiting for what's next and then... A commercial happens. The same is true with radio. These and other mediums that seek to use entertainment to get us 'tuned in' so they can sell advertising space to those who know what we're like and what we may want or need based on what we're watching. This is their business and can be a key to growing yours. True to the human species, this is just not good enough. We grumble and complain, disappointed in the break and upset that we have to put up with the ads that technically provide the opportunity for the content - that show we were enjoying. Though there are many incredible and fun advertisements out there, the reality is that most businesses doesn...

Monumental Mondays or 3 Tips to Love What You Do

When I read posts across my social media , I'm always surprised to see how many people complain about getting up, starting the week and having to work. I've been lucky in my career, having found both a career that I love and that I'm good at. This hasn't always been the case, but I can say that even the toughest of jobs or the worst of situations can be made better in a few, simple ways. Here's three tips. One) Have a positive attitude. I know, it's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason. If you have a positive outlook, the world really is a better place. Take Doug, a partner in one arena and a great conversationalist in another. When I call or when he rings my direction, I enjoy asking him how he's doing as his answer is typically something like "Absolutely great." One day I mentioned that if he were to ever answer in a negative manner, I'd truly wonder what could be so horribly wrong in the world. "It's one of those thi...

Stop Insulting Karma or Building Your Web of Allies

One of my least favorite sayings is that "Karma is a bitch". Not only is it telling of the person saying it, it's just not true. Karma, good or bad, can provide a clarity of our true self as well as a path for moving forward. Like many, throughout my life, I've had the opportunity to examine my past, define where I am headed and tap into what I call my Web of Allies. Having come from an incredible family and having had a bright childhood filled with books, nature and curiosity, my young adult life came as a surprise. Without the love I was used to and faced with challenges, abuse and anger I was unaccustomed to, I fell into times of self pity. Though I was able to stay motivated enough to get out of the situations, there still came a time when I felt like someone that even I wouldn't like to know. I turned on myself and allowed depression to become an excuse for a lack of focus and drive. I blamed people that had hurt me or who I thought were responsible for the...
