Headed to 2015 or Let's Get this Party Started!

I'm so excited for 2015! Though I've loved what I do since I started marketing, I've literally never been so excited about the road ahead. I've spent the past year learning about green technology, further defining my career goals and getting to know a wide range of individuals and organizations around the globe. I've mentored, joined collaborative events and expanded my view of what's possible and now it's time to truly put the lessons to work. The sun is setting on 2014 If you know me, you know that almost every conversation I have includes my marketing company, my clients or the implications of what is possible for the globe if we keep moving forward and continue to develop as individuals. With the incredible amount of information available and the now trendy focus on community, collaboration and sustainability, I feel there has never been a better time for me. This week, I've put out a calendar of events, promotions and opportunities that ex

Creative Content Creation or Ideal Marketing

We've all done it. We're watching a movie on tv, fully engrossed on the visual reality being performed for us. Lost in the fictional world, our environment drops from consciousness, pulling us into the scene and into the lives of the characters. We sit - motionless - waiting for what's next and then... A commercial happens. The same is true with radio. These and other mediums that seek to use entertainment to get us 'tuned in' so they can sell advertising space to those who know what we're like and what we may want or need based on what we're watching. This is their business and can be a key to growing yours. True to the human species, this is just not good enough. We grumble and complain, disappointed in the break and upset that we have to put up with the ads that technically provide the opportunity for the content - that show we were enjoying. Though there are many incredible and fun advertisements out there, the reality is that most businesses doesn&#

Monumental Mondays or 3 Tips to Love What You Do

When I read posts across my social media , I'm always surprised to see how many people complain about getting up, starting the week and having to work. I've been lucky in my career, having found both a career that I love and that I'm good at. This hasn't always been the case, but I can say that even the toughest of jobs or the worst of situations can be made better in a few, simple ways. Here's three tips. One) Have a positive attitude. I know, it's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason. If you have a positive outlook, the world really is a better place. Take Doug, a partner in one arena and a great conversationalist in another. When I call or when he rings my direction, I enjoy asking him how he's doing as his answer is typically something like "Absolutely great." One day I mentioned that if he were to ever answer in a negative manner, I'd truly wonder what could be so horribly wrong in the world. "It's one of those thi

Stop Insulting Karma or Building Your Web of Allies

One of my least favorite sayings is that "Karma is a bitch". Not only is it telling of the person saying it, it's just not true. Karma, good or bad, can provide a clarity of our true self as well as a path for moving forward. Like many, throughout my life, I've had the opportunity to examine my past, define where I am headed and tap into what I call my Web of Allies. Having come from an incredible family and having had a bright childhood filled with books, nature and curiosity, my young adult life came as a surprise. Without the love I was used to and faced with challenges, abuse and anger I was unaccustomed to, I fell into times of self pity. Though I was able to stay motivated enough to get out of the situations, there still came a time when I felt like someone that even I wouldn't like to know. I turned on myself and allowed depression to become an excuse for a lack of focus and drive. I blamed people that had hurt me or who I thought were responsible for the

The Web of Allies Website or Marketing Discount if You Mention this Post

Like most businesses, we are excited when we grow. We've been doing it in leaps and bounds this year and are excited for both our newest specialty category (clean technology) and the website we have been building for our Web of Allies. It's a daunting process as most business owners will tell you and to celebrate our upcoming announcement, we are providing a 25% discount on services ordered by Friday October 31, 2014 and a 20% discount if you miss Friday but mention this post. I've been in marketing, PR and advertising for eighteen years now. If you've read about how I got my start, it was in small market radio in Utah. Though it sounds minimal, it's actually quite competitive and you really have to make a name for yourself and for your clients if you want to survive. Survival came first and thriving came second - I had truly found my calling. Marketing is a great place for a creative entrepreneur and I love how I'm able to use both my communication abilities

PR in 2014 or Telling Your Story

It's a common goal in marketing to tell a story with the most impact and the best returns. Though the opinions about what the components best utilized for this purpose and the ideal outcomes differ, there are a few common traits that make a campaign or concepts work for your companies best interest. Here are a few based in one of 2014's best marketing resources-PR. 1. Choose a great writer . I've read just about every type of material obsessively my whole life and can articulate concepts from the most simplistic to complex quite easily. I 'hear' the tone when I need to use the voice of an announcer, a disclaimer, a promotion and other common forms of communication. Telling a story can be simple for some of us, but for others, it's not so easy. If you choose to engage in PR, make sure to adequately screen your writer and have more than one person review the piece before it is published. Though it may be easy to comprehend for the inner circle of your business

Turn the Water Off While You Brush or Victory

Like all things, victory isn't a thing. It's not an emotion, a goal or an item. Victory isn't just winning, in my opinion, Victory is the dash line of success that our efforts spin 'round and keep in line with. It's the goal we set, the steps we take to achieve and the plethora of other "things" that come along with it. Lessons learned, luck found, allies made. Victory has as much loss as reward, but in this space between our upheld arms, our thank you to the Universe for what we have been given and enabled to do, there is a channeling of a pure energy, an abundance we feel in that moment where we have come into what we had hoped for. A couple weeks ago, I was in a heated discussion and some intense negotiations. It's not new, but some things I truly believe in and it became difficult to hold back. And I didn't. This, as much as tripping on stage, has a public embarrassment to it. I lost my cool, I know it and have been beating myself up intern

Past My Limit or Internal Lies. Three tips on personal motivation.

Every time I say to myself that I have reached my limit or that I'm past my limit, I have the instant emotional response that it's just not true. Like most, throughout my life I've had a variety of experiences, some pretty harsh trials and many lessons in endurance and perseverance. Here's a few tips on how to keep going when you feel there is no possible way you can. 1. Ignore reality. Not completely, but in some ways ignore the elements that make you feel there is no way out. Relationships that are ending, finances that are drained and the faith of others in your talents that has just run out are all real and actual problems. In personal and professional realms, there are times when you just can't see moving forward nor feel you have the strength to do so. I suggest you ignore it a little and get out of your current perspective. I can recall the day I drove into Millcreek Broadcasting, a small Utah radio group, to apply for a job. At twenty two I hadn't h

New Paradigms and Marketing, Five Tips to Getting Started

"I've got a great idea!" It's a common statement in my world and it's typically followed up with a "If you'll just sign this non-disclosure agreement, I'll be happy to tell you what it is." Although I had those days of feeling the need to protect my new idea, latest draft or someones technology, I would not suggest it even if you are new. Here's the thing... One. The likelihood is that is you are approaching an inverstor, marketer or potential partner and they don't want to steal your idea. This is not to say it isn't a great one, but it does mean that you will be limiting your ability to move forward if you ask individuals to take your word that it is in fact new and worth bringing to fruition. Bringing a product to market is hard and typically, the Universe tends to give the same or similar ideas to multiple people at the same time. This happens for a variety of reasons like social need or popular culture but from initial id

A Career Becomes a Mission

or Rants, Chance and Grants "What are we going to do about it?" I complained. I'm not sure which time I'm referring to here, but I've said that - a lot. Even though I always felt I was doing something, I was never quite sure what it was. I was busy. I did a lot of stuff. Consistently inconsistent, my dad calls it and until recently, I agreed fully. "Well, what are 'ya gonna do?" my mother's family would chime in when my mom voiced a concern. Though they had seen and been through much, their lackadaisical attitude always put go getters like my mother and myself a little on edge. "Something", I'd reply internally anytime I heard such statements, but also knew my rants were somewhat the same. If you've known me long, you'll know reading, writing and study come as often as sleep, work and visiting. I'm infinitely curious and topics of interest vary widely. With a focus on learning and communicating, stimulated by

Always be Batman.

After a 5am text and a 6:30 call back, the morning began. Filled with complex issues we'd been wrestling with in the oil & gas world, my cohort and I discussed all available options, regardless of feasibility or implications. The conversation was rewarding and my mind went alight. Then the morning took a brief turn when another conversation became doubt filled and worrisome. In comes my email box. First subject line: Always be Batman. (Thanks, Hot Topic) In business, I have the choice to be any version of my self to make the most money or to cover any inadequacies. All people have that choice and at times, my insecurities have caused me to behave in a manner or to represent myself in a way that wasn't true to me. Today, I've learned that having mentors, admitting shortcomings and finding flexibilities in my fields are the best way to both learn to be of the most value to my peers and also to propel myself the farthest. I love my work and now that I have moved

I love Memorial Day (and leave the BBQ's alone)

I love memorial day. I didn't used to think of it much and I BBQ all the time, so I'm not too impressed with all those cartoons running around. I love memorial day because I get to officially remember people, many of whom I think about consistently but It wasn't always this way. Remembering can be hard and (in my opinion) paying tribute to those memories are an individual choice. I was living away from my family, in Arizona and married to an individual that didn't prefer me having any connections to people outside of him. My grandmothers both passed away in this time and I was unaware. My grandmother in Florida was an adorable little woman when I got to know her as a young kid. From my mom's stories, I know it wasn't always that way. Grandma Gron had to be tough to live through my grandpa and I promise you, tough is an understatement. She raised three children and my mother is of the best I have the pleasure of knowing or to know or know of. I remember and c
Not the Same as Knowing I've been looking at a lot of alien and sounds heard round the world type videos (I heard the rumblings in Utah back on Jan 9th, 2013) and was thinking along a line of random thoughts that led to wondering how I'd react should I see someone (or something) outside my window one day. This, oddly enough, led me to think of sign language, language in general and this post. Having the world of information at our fingertips or having the Matrix-like ability to learn on command, is not the same as knowing. To have the ability to access information in your memory means your thoughts can also process new ideas and in different ways. Language, for example. I have taken two years of French and two semesters of college ASL. Once I learned them, I "tuned in" to different people and scenarios around me. I thought about different places and histories. As the years passed and I no longer used it, the languages became foreign to me once again, but only i
